The Associations aims are to promote the shooting, collection, and study of the Lee Enfield series of rifles the majority of members shoot either the SMLE or the No 4 however many of the rarer marks are owned by members.
Matches are fired on targets contemporary for the era of the rifle See the picture for an example of the Convertible Landscape Target, used for rapid fire practices and designed with a white stripe at the top to make you fire high, a black band at the base to make you fire low, and a zig zag pattern to give no readily discernable aiming mark. You need a bit of skill on this one to keep your shots in the middle.
The most commonly used rifles by club members are the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) affectionatly known as the Smellie and the No 4 Lee Enfield The rifles are shot in different classes reflected by their design dates and accuracy. The classes are broken down as follows:
Vintage (Victorian Era) Long Lee Enfield and Martini Enfield
Classic (World War 1 Era) Short Magazine Lee Enfield and P14
Veteran (World War 2 Era) The No 4 Rifle and No5 Jungle Carbine
